seeking information

Hello Aidpage members. I'm kind of new at this website. I was wondering if anyone out there from Georgia know of any resources? I lost my job early last month. They denied my UI so I'm making a appeal but havent been set a date. I'm behind on my bills, my car is about to be repo and my phones are due to be turned off by Sunday midnight. I cant pay my bills and I'm stuck in a corner right now. Any sites, resources, or information right now would be helpful.
I thought about doing what every one else does when their car is up for repo (hide it til you can pay for it) but unfortunately I have a tracking devise on mines (dumb technology).
I did go apply for foodstamps to feed my kids but they are saying if i am approved for unemployment insurance that I would not qualify. I don't get the system at all. How can you feed your kids, pay the bills in order for the lights to stay on and have a safe place to sleep with 280 a week?
Sorry for venting... but if anyone has been in my situation or is currently in my situation..how are you making it? Some positive information would go a long ways here!
Thanks for reading...

in response to AimersSB...   Thanks for the advice. I will most def call United Way. I've seen them on the poster boards but didn't really know what they were about.
Hopefully they approve me for the foodstamps. I think I'll get them. The caseworker said that if they approved unemployment insurance that I wouldnt be qualified for stamps. But now that I know the unemployment has been denied, maybe they'll go ahead and approve the stamps.
But thanks for your advice...
God bless.

I find the part about the food stamps and unemployment odd. Only because when my husband got laid off and was on unemployment we got food stamps. And I understand the not getting the system. I was on SSI for a few years but lost it when my husband got laid off the first time, they said that was just too much aid. Just does not make sense at all.
One thing I can think of for you to do is call United Way at 211. They have all sorts of resources for medical, mental, homelessness, and joblessness. You can call them from any phone be it home/land line, cell phone or pay phone. I would definitely give them a try. Tell them your entire situation and they can help you find numbers, addresses and websites. Groups, organizations and whatever else you need. I have used them for many things.
All my best and I hope things work out for you.
Oh, and if your kids are young enough, try for WIC, if they haven't killed it yet. Women Infants and Children. They give you help feeding your children.
